This is a bug report for perl from gumo@k64.org,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.35 running under perl v5.8.8.

I think adding a different flavour of array matching would be worthwhile.
Examples:

if('-w' ~~ @ARGV) { ... } # Smart matching as we know it
if($ARGV[?] eq '-w') { ... } # True if any command line argument is -w
if($array1[?] eq $array2[?]) { ... } # True if @array1 has a common element with @array2
if($array[?] eq $arrayref->[?]) { ... } # True if @array has a common element with @$arrayref
if($hash{?} == 64) { ... } # True if any %hash value is 64
if($user{?}->{uid} == 500) { ... } # True if a record has uid=>500 in %user

The hash behaviour would be quite different from smart matching (checking hash values instead of keys).
The 'common element' feature would be new.
You would be able to specify the desired matching operator: ==, eq, =~, ~~, !=, etc.

I'm aware it's more than just a syntactic flavour but it would be a pleasant way to do things.

(Please ignore the version number in this report, the relevant perl version is 5.10+.)
