I'd much prefer perl5db.pl to be entirely boring and contain lots of clear POD as well as an easily-readable structure. Your points right now consist entirely of "I'm afraid of change." That is a valid position to take if the environment isn't changing (as in a huge enterprise company); however perl core is changing rapidly and perl5db.pl being resistant to change is a huge danger in itself.
