It seems like a good GCI project whether or not it ends up in the core.
Please (someone) add it to
http://wiki.enlightenedperl.org/gci2011/gci2011/ideas (ideally with the
author's blessing).

Also, please add any other ideas you might have for GCI projects.  And if you
are willing to act as a mentor (the load is nowhere near that of a GSOC
mentor), please add your name to that page too.
