That part of the documentation doesn't distinguish between parenthesised
and unparenthesised argument lists, which it would have to to correctly
describe the parsing there.  I think it shouldn't be replaced at all:
it's (mostly) documenting semantics rather than syntax, and the =item
line is a stylised representation of the parameter list rather than a
real exposition of the grammar.  perlop accurately indicates how unary
functions are parsed.
