I'd certainly like to see a proposed patch so we could see how this
feels. It'd be nice to be able to "just drop tarballs in your dist" and
have them work.

However....

From time to time, it is useful to be able to patch a
dist from CPAN in blead. In general, I also appreciate the
ability to diff the CPAN modules in two versions of blead, which
moving to tarballs would hinder.
