That's not what I think of a "maint" branch. And as a user of software,
I would like to see bug fixes happen in a reasonable short time. Having
to wait 5 years for a bug fix isn't a strong selling point to potential
users.
I would like to see bug fixes to be available "soon". And as long as
5.(x+2).0 isn't there, I'd like to have the bug fix in 5.x.y. I would
prefer:
General bug fixes *don't* go in *after they're available in the next
major release*.
But if the next major release hasn't happened, bug fixes should go in maint.
