Well, that's how I, for one, read your original comment. You didn't really
provide much in the way of supporting context.

Yes, but in this case, the main argument for removing it is that it's a
little-used Perl4ism which adds no great benefit to the language, and
(according to the people who are at the sharp end of training new people and
welcoming them to the language) trips up newbies (and experienced
developers) quite often.
