This is a bug report for perl from ville.skytta@iki.fi,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.34 running under perl v5.8.3.

Perl 5.8.3's and 5.8.4's perlpod.pod documents the =encoding POD
directive, but none of the tools shipped groks it, not even
podchecker.
