What part of "block by itself" do you think applies to the block of an
if, or a do, or a map, or a subroutine definition, or a dereference?

Do you get what "by itself" means?

We teach simply that "looping block" means the blocks of a while,
until, for, foreach, or a "naked block" (your "block by itself").
I've never had anyone in any one of my classes confuse that once they
hear the rule.
