Pay rate: £30,122 - £35,938 Terms of employment: Salaried employee Length of employment: Until 31/12/2014 Hours: Full time Onsite: yes Description: Professor Seth Grant and his research group have extensive experience with genetic and biochemical studies of synapse proteins and form a world leading program on the molecular basis of behaviour. The Genes to Cognition Program (www.genes2cognition.org) directed by Seth Grant is an international collaborative research program integrating multiple methods for the study of basic brain mechanisms and disease. The research team includes geneticists, molecular and cell biologists, biochemists, computational biologists and collaborations in electrophysiology and behaviour. We are seeking to appoint a programmer/bioinformatician to provide informatics support for the research activities of Professor Seth Grants research group (including the Genes2Cognition programme, www.genes2cognition.org), with particular responsibility for generating code and performing analysis that facilitates the programme. Work will be discussed with the line manager or other PIs within the group to jointly define the project priorities. The job holder will determine the priority of own work, plan and manage their own programme of work activity on an ongoing basis, in agreement with the principal investigator, to ensure that the research is conducted in accordance with the research timetable and the available resources. They will be expected to contribute intellectually to the design and to attend conferences to gain knowledge and to disseminate the Genes2Cognition programme to a wider audience. Required skills: Experience should include object-orientated programming in Perl (or equivalent), relational database development and web development (Apache, Javascript, jQuery).
