Description:
Goldman Sachs’ Strats business unit is a world leader in developing
quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business
problems. Working side by side with the firm’s trading, sales, banking and
investment management professionals, members of the business unit use their
mathematical and scientific training to create financial products, advise
clients on transactions, measure risk and identify market opportunities. 

Investment Banking Division (IBD) Strategies collaborates with marketers
and bankers in the Financing Group and Investment Banking Division to
create quantitative strategies and analyses that lead to transactions with
our clients.  In the course of our business, we generate a substantial
amount of custom software that we use to model, simulate, and evaluate
corporate income statements, balance sheets, risk-management strategies,
and funding strategies.

Required skills:
We seek software architect-developers who: 
•	Design, develop, and maintain software that extends SecDB, the
proprietary risk-management platform that captures the trading and risk
positions of Goldman Sachs, to model the risks that our clients face.  Most
development would take place in Slang, our proprietary scripting language. 

•	Design, develop, and maintain new tools, processes, and platforms
that leverage and scale the firm’s banking and capital-markets franchise. 
•	Design, develop, and maintain software that centralizes
corporate-finance models from public and proprietary sources in SecDB. 
•	Apply best practices in software architecture, design, coding,
review, testing, debugging, and lifecycle management. 
•	Collaborate with a wide group of people, including IBD bankers and
marketers; the SecDB Core Strategies team that builds the SecDB
infrastructure; other members of IBD Strategies who build and change
pricing models; and technology and QA professionals.  

 Preferred Qualifications  
•	Has a strong academic grounding in, as well as 2+ years of industry
experience with, all aspects of good software architecture and design. 
•	Has comprehensive coding expertise in Perl, Python, C++, Java, or
another high-level language, and expertise in the design and analysis of
data structures and algorithms.  Experience in functional and scripting
languages is a plus. 
•	Has at least a bachelor’s degree in a technical field from a
leading university. Computer Science preferred 
•	Has the ability to grasp concepts in mathematical and corporate
finance, and model them in software.
•	Has the desire and ability to play on a team, and to learn new
things every day.
