Thanx to those who replied. I'll keep looking.

One site of interest I found is:

Many programs I looked at are MS Windows-only, or PHP-only, or
commercial (on-line) operations, or manipulate GEDCOM files but do not
have a web interface.

I did not restrict the original request because I wanted to see what
turned up. And of course it could be days or weeks before some people
respond.

I'll study Michael Ionescu's code too.

I have written a number of search engine-type apps recently, so the
coding would not be too hard, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

So, in the short term I'll keep thinking about this, rather than, say,
doing something silly like writing Perl :-).
