The perl interpreter shipped with HP-UX isn't built that way and while I don't know about the ActiveState perl interpreter, I suspect that it isn't either. So I would recommend to always build your own perl on HP-UX (preferrably with the HP C/ANSI-C compiler). hp -- _ | Peter J.
